Rams release OLB David Vobora

Vobora has been a decent player who has had his ups and downs since being drafted a couple years ago as "Mr. Irrelevant". The Rams went hard into free agency to improve the LB position adding Zac Diles, Brady Poppinga, and Ben Leber. The Rams will be much better at the LB position this upcoming year, though look for someone else to be cut.

Unfotunantely Vobora's time with the Rams is up. He is a classy player and the Rams were classy enough to let him go early so he can find another team quickly. I hope the best for him because he always played hard and never complained.

Mark Clayton expected to re-sign with the Rams?

The competition the Rams have at WR is crazy. There is almost no breathing room for error. Its packed with many good receivers. Some guys are coming back from injuries and need to prove themselves. The Rams have been in talks with Clayton and he visited the facility on Wednesday. If all is well and he passes a physical, he will be a part of the Rams shortly. He was very productive last year.

He only had 6 days of practice before his first game with the Rams and he had 10 receptions for 114 yards. He picked up the playbook extremely quickly and is a solid veteran. Adding him to the competition is like adding gas to a fire. I'd like the addition because when he played last season he was productive and could be very good next year.

Though due to his knee injury Mark may have to start the season on the PUP list. If so, he cannot see the field until week 6. I hope he is ready to go because adding him to the WR position just makes us scarier.

Rams re-sign OG/OT Adam Goldberg

The versatile offensive guard and offensive tackle Adam Goldberg was re-signed by the Rams today. This was an excellent move because he provides great depth for both the guard and tackle positions. Adam Goldberg may be the best 6th man in the NFL just because of the versatility he provides. His starting job will be lost to newly acquired guard Harvey Dahl due to his lack of power.

How does the Rams Free Agent class grade?

The Rams made a lot of moves during this free agency period. I am very pleased as all Rams fans are. We made many moves to improve our team on offense, defense, and special teams. We have found 5 new starters :

I think the Rams are ready to take the next step and evolve into a playoff team. They have a new offensive coordinator who can work magic with some of the offensive talents he's been given. Both our offense and defense are tremendously improved because of the moves we made this offseason.

I think the Rams deserve an A for what they have done in Free Agency.

How could any Rams fan be dissapointed?

Devaney and Spags have done it once again, though this time, they had to impress everybody. They went out in free agency and filled virtually every hole we had. They picked up quality starters, some stars, and some role players. We will see a lot of new faces around next year, and I am looking for a breakout season from the Rams. Lets look at some of the holes we fixed.

OG - Adam Goldberg is replaced by Harvey Dahl
OLB - Larry Grant is replaced by Zac Diles
CB - Kevin Dockery/Quincy Butler is replaced by Al Harris
DT - Gary Gibson/Cliff Ryan is replaced by Justin Bannan/Daniel Muir

All of the guys signed are going to see some playing time, some more than others but they will see the field. I expect these guys to drastically improve the Rams on all 3 phases of the game. This is a very exciting time to be a Rams fan because we are on the up.

Rams are ready for RB Cadillac Williams

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, the Rams are finalizing a deal with former Tampa Bay RB Cadillac Williams today. This is terrific news for all Rams fans. We can finally rejoice. DeSpags has done it again, though this time they've solved the problem that we've had for 3 years now. Bring the Caddy to St. Louis. He is going to join a backfield with Steven Jackson and Jerious Norwood. Norwood is the change of pace back, Caddy is the 3rd down back, and SJAX is Mr. Do it all. This makes the RB position a strength on the team. All Rams fans should be pleased with the soon to be addition of Cadillac Williams. He is going to bring a new dimension to this team. He will be able to provide breaks for SJ39 and will be able to take over with Norwood incase of an injury to Jackson.

Rams sign OLB Brady Poppinga

The Rams make yet another signing this time it was outside linebacker Brady Poppinga from the Packers. Not a big splashy name, and theres a reason. He will provide good depth along the outside. He was injured all last year unfortunantely. He is a pretty good special teams player too. I dont see Poppinga in action on the defensive side of the ball because I feel we have more talented linebackers ready to step in. He is a nice depth signing though.

The Rams continue to add pieces and are primed for a breakout. LETS GET IT!

Rams snag RB Jerious Norwood

The Rams have signed running back Jerious Norwood from the Atlanta Falcons for a one year deal. He has had some injury issues in the past and missed all of last season. He is a good change of pace back and will not be the number 2. Many Rams fans including I believe we will go out and grab another tonight that can be the primary back incase Steven were to go down to an injury. Norwood will be able to return kicks and is an excellent home run hitter.

I like the idea of grabbing 2 backs. Norwood can take it to the house any time he touches the ball. He is an exciting player to watch especially in the open field. I hope the Rams add somebody else tonight (Snelling, Harrison, or Cadillac Williams). Our RB situation is turning into a good thing. Hopefully Norwood and perhaps a new RB can take some of the load off of SJAX and prolong his career.

Rams show interest in many running backs

The Rams are said to have interest in both Falcons running backs Jason Snelling and Jerious Norwood. Starting off with Snelling, I'd love to sign him. He is the most complete 3rd down back in the NFL. His statistics from last season were 87 rushing attempts, 324 yards, 2 touchdowns, 44 receptions, 303 yards, and 3 touchdowns. As you can see Snelling is productive. He is good at all phases of the game (Catching, Running, Blocking). If we add him I'd love the 1-2 punch between him and SJAX. I would like to think he would touch the ball 6-8 times a game, if not more.

Jerious Norwood was injured all of last year though is another good option. He is truly the change of pace back that could back up Jackson. Norwood has game breaking speed and has the ability to run and catch the rock. He would probably also be returning punts and kicks to give Amendola a break. This signing wouldn't be bad though I am not sure if its exactly what were looking for. If we got him, I can't say I'd be angry.

Ronnie Brown is another running back that's being pursued by the Rams. When healthy, this kid can play. He is a solid running back with a boat load of skills. He is a starting running back in this league, though he is on the market. He is a solid runner with a lot of power to muscle through defenders. He can catch and block too. He can be a real steal, even at his declining age of 29. I'd love this signing because Jackson and Brown would in my opinion make the best 1-2 punch in the NFL. Brown is a less physical weaker but faster Steven Jackson. Looking at talented players like Brown and realizing Steven is much better than them is what makes me grateful. We have something special at running back and adding the dangerous Brown would make us that much better. He could take the load no questions asked if SJ missed a game or just needs a breather.

Jerome Harrison is another option the Rams are pursuing. He could be a steal too like some others on this list. He exploded for the Browns 2 years ago and has been quiet since. He is an OK running back and isn't exactly great in any department. He could help giving Jackson some rest, though I see a lot more intriguing options out here in free agency.

Rams trade rumors about OG John Greco?

This could be the Rams' first trade this offseason. John Greco may be heading to Cleveland to reunite with his old offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. Shurmur must think he see's something in Greco that the rest of us don't.

Greco doesn't care about football, therefore he will never be great. He has no motivation to step up even with the countless opportunities he had last season. He couldn't even see the field being inactive for several games. He couldn't beat out Goldberg for the starting job, and Goldberg got negative push on running plays. Greco has had a countless amount of opportunities and he continued to fail to take advantage of them. I don't think we will get much if anything for Greco, probably a 6th round pick. A lot of fans wanted to keep him around for depth though I don't care much because the guys that dont care about football never perform at a high level.

If the Rams can scam the Browns for a good deal it would be great, though I am expecting a low pick. We may also go after one of there linebackers like Chris Gocong, Scott Fujita, or D'Qwell Jackson who would be my choice.

Rams sign DT Justin Bannan

The Rams have just signed defensive tackle Justin Bannan from the Denver Broncos. He is a veteran presence who can help Robbins guide the young defensive tackles. At this point, I would say he will get the starting job over guys like Gary Gibson, Jermelle Cudjo, and Darell Scott though they will have a rotation going.

Not a special signing though it may have been an upgrade to what we are currently using. I'd like to see him perform like Fred Robbins did last season, though that was special and is very unlikely. Bannan has never been a great player, but he could be a nice piece to the rotation along the defensive tackles. He can help stop the run and on 3rd downs Spags can slide James Hall into DT and put Robert Quinn on the edge which could be a dangerous pass rush.

Rams inform OG Jacob Bell of release

"Rams will be releasing Jacob Bell tomorrow after he turned down an offer to restructure his $6mil base salary for this year ".   - Jason La Canfora.


I don't understand why Jacob Bell would not restructure his contract. When we signed him he was a pro bowl guard and was playing at an extremely high level. He came here and has underplayed that contract by far. I posted an article about a week ago saying we should restructure his contract because we need money and he doesn't deserve to get paid $6 million dollars a year with his play. He is a pretty good pass protector but a under achiever when it comes to run blocking. 


I think this is a smart move if he wasn't willing to fix the money. We still have holes on this roster that need to be filled and he clearly isn't a team guy.

Rams sign OLB Zac Diles and CB Al Harris

The Rams have agreed to terms with outside linebacker Zac Diles from the Houston Texans. This is a nice pick up by the Rams who needed help at linebacker. Diles when healthy is a good player. He is very versatile and can play a lot of positions. He is also a good special teams player which is big. He will probably start next to James Laurinaitis. When Diles has talented players around him he tends to play at a higher level which is terrific. He is a solid tackler and I think will fit in well with this defense.

Last year the Rams had trouble covering slot receivers partly due to the rookie year of cornerback Jerome Murphy and the horrendous play by Kevin Dockery. I fully expect Dockery to be gone for next season. Well, the Rams have signed veteran corner back Al Harris to a one year deal. He is 37. He played for Spags in 1999-2003 and is the prototypical Spags type corner. He has good size but has had injury problems. If he can stay healthy I think he will split time with Justin King and Jerome Murphy for nickel back. He could be a great pick up and I am pleased here.

The Rams continue to upgrade there team on all 3 phases of the game. I think they will be solid next year and continue to love what Devaney and Spagnoulo are doing with this team.

Rams agree to terms with OG Harvey Dahl

Its official. The Rams have agreed to terms with offensive guard Harvey Dahl from the Falcons. This is an absolutely amazing signing for the Rams. Steven Jackson and Sam Bradford should be rejoicing right now. Jackson I think will explode next season and I am excited for it.

Dahl I believe is the type of player to makes others around him better just from sheer motivation. Our offensive line will now be elite and a top 5 offensive line. Dahl is a nasty run blocker which is exactly what we needed. I am so excited to see these nice big holes being opened for Steven Jackson.

Dahl should give a little call to Snelling and convince him to take a trip down to St. Louis.

Rams ready to fill some big holes?

The Rams are said to be the front runners and are expected to sign offensive guard Harvey Dahl from the Falcons. The Falcons are pursuing their other OG Justin Blalock and are leaving Dahl. Dahl would be an absolutely amazing sign and worth waiting for the past 3 days. He would not only make our OG spot solid, but would make our offensive line elite.

Also the Rams are going hard after RB Jason Snelling. He is the most complete 3rd down back in free agency. I'd love to get him too. Having him behind Steven Jackson is very comforting at the least. He is good at all aspects of his game and would bring much needed help to our team.

At this point, if the Rams can grab both of these guys they will only have one remaining hole which is at outside linebacker. They need to grab these 2 guys and start rolling.

Rams need to find a backup for Steven Jackson

The Rams are said to have interest in Jason Snelling as of right now. I'd love the pick up. Jason Snelling is a solid 3rd down back being able to catch, block and run the ball. He is the most complete 3rd down back. He would be able to fill in for Steven Jackson if he missed some time. I think Snelling would be a very effective player here and I would be nothing short of ecstatic. Snelling is my 1a and Sproles as 1b.

Jerome Harrison is also being pursued by the Rams. 2 seasons ago he went wild running. He is a pretty good player. I would rather go after some other running backs though I wouldn't exactly be pissed if we got Harrison. He is very effective at running the ball. He is nothing more than average at catching which is why I'd rather have some other guys here.

At the end of the day we need to find a running back to ease the workload from Steven Jackson. I prefer Sproles or Snelling. Sproles would be a solid option but we haven't really heard much about him. I hope Devaney and Spags can solve this issue and we get Jackson a reliable back up.

Rams agree to terms with S Quintin Mikell

The Rams have agreed on a 4 year deal with Safety Quintin Mikell from the Eagles. A void was left when O.J Atogwe was released, and here is the solution. Mikell was regarded as the best S free agent there was. Coach Spags coached him before when he started his career with Philly, so there is some familiarity there.

Mikell is a Spags type defender. He is a great player because he is good in coverage, but is excellent at playing in the box. He is a terrific tackler and is a good all around talent. He is exactly the type of Safety Spags needed to put this defense on another level. Having Mikell back there gives us the option to release James Butler. Craig Dahl can now move over and Darian Stewart can continue to come in off the bench on nickel packages.

I am extremely happy the Rams made this move. He will fit in so well. The type of impact he can have on this defense is tremendous. I feel the Rams are only a couple more moves away from being an elite defense.

How to create more cap room

Right now nobody really knows how much under the cap we are. I've read two different numbers several times (12 million, and 35 million). Obviously I hope its the 35 million because that gives us much more breathing room in attaining players in free agency. I believe we will make a few moves to create a bit more cap room.

A.J Feeley was brought in to come teach Sam Bradford the mechanics about the West Coast offense. Now that we've switched offensive coordinators we will no longer use the west coast offense. This means that A.J Feeley is basically useless at this point. Last years pre-season I though Thaddeus Lewis outplayed him and I'd feel comfortable with Lewis at the number 2 spot because he brings something totally different to our offense. A.J Feeley is due $2.25 million dollars next year which is basically a waste. I feel we can create some cap room here by getting rid of him.

James Butler came along with the Spagnuolo regime. His play does not reflect his salary. He is clearly getting over paid and it needs to be fixed in my opinion. We have two options here: If Spags still believes in him, he can restructure his contract to something more suitable, or we can release him. Some want to re-structure because he is the closest thing we have to a veteran in the secondary which now some seem to think is a weakness. Butler is due $3 million dollars next season. I believe it is best for both sides if we went our seperate ways, though Spags and Devaney may feel different.

Jacob Bell was signed by the Rams in 2008. He signed a 6 year $36 million dollar deal. He is due $6 million dollars next season. When we signed him, he was playing at a pro bowl level. His play has slowly become worse. At this point, we absolutely have to restructure his contract because he hasn't deserved this type of money for the last 3 seasons. Also, we have tons of money tied up in the offensive line. I dont see releasing him as an option because we have a hole at the other Guard spot and releasing Bell would just create a big problem.

These 3 moves I believe will create some space for us to sign another starter in free agency. The business part of football can be cruel at times, though when being paid big bucks you have to preform big. I think we should do all three of these moves, though I am sure we all have different opinions, and at the end of the day, Devaney and Spags will take care of business.

Which offensive guard should we heavily pursue?

After watching our offensive guards play last year, I can truthfully say I am embarrassed. Depending on how much the Rams are willing to spend will determine who the best decision for us is. We have several veteran options who would surely do a much better job at opening holes for Steven Jackson than Adam Goldberg or even Jacob Bell. With that, lets begin.

Davin Joseph - He is one terrific player. If the Buccaneers make the mistake of letting him go, I think we have no choice but to pounce on him. He is great in both pass protection and run blocking. He can open holes and is versatile. Hes fairly healthy and is in the prime of his career. Legarrette Blount was running wild behind his line. Joseph is a consummate pro who never complained during their losing seasons and would truly make our offensive line elite.

Justin Blalock - Justin Blalock is an extremely healthy (only missed 2 games in 4 years) young up and coming guard. He has done a solid job on the Falcons line for the past 4 years. He is under appreciated and over looked because of the other guys on that line (Harvey Dahl, Tyson Clabo). He is a very efficient run blocker using his big 6'4 329 lbs frame. Blalock is above average in pass blocking. He would be the cheaper option between him and Joseph, though both would do wonders towards our running game. Especially the short running game such as 3rd and 1 or in the redzone.

Now we enter the very expensive options. I don't believe we will pursue either of these guys because of the money we already have invested in our line.

Carl Nicks - He is a top 5 offensive guard in the NFL. He is terrific in creating holes for the run game and keeping his QB standing in the pass game. He would be a very expensive option if the Saints where to let him go. They won't be able to afford the 2 most expensive guards in the game (Jahri Evans, Carl Nicks). I don't see us giving up a ton of money for him, though the difference between him and Adam Goldberg is unbelievable. 

Logan Mankins - Mankins is considered the best guard in the NFL by many. He is terrific in every aspect of the game but is looking for a huge payday. I don't see us pursuing him at all. He also held out until week 7 last year showing what kind of character he is. Greed seems to have taken over his brain. I will admit he is on another level skill wise. 

At the end of the day I'd say we end up with Blalock. He is flying under the radar and would be terrific on our line. He would improve Steven Jacksons yards per carry. I could see the Rams convert a lot of 3rd downs and 4th downs, as opposed to last year where they were absolutely horrendous on those downs.
